چکیده

Abstract. Total column ozone (TCO) is commonly measured by Brewer and Dobson spectroradiometers. Both types of instruments use solar irradiance measurements at four wavelengths in the ultraviolet radiation range to derive TCO. For calibration quality assurance TCO both instrument require periodic field comparisons with a reference instrument. This study presents traceable retrievals from direct spectral portable UV QASUME. retrieved fitting technique derived minimal least square fit algorithm using wavelength between 305 345 nm. The retrieval based on an atmospheric model accounting for different parameters such as effective temperature, aerosol optical depth, Rayleigh scattering, SO2, ground air pressure, absorption cross sections top-of-the-atmosphere spectrum. Traceability achieved fully characterizing calibrating QASUME spectroradiometer laboratory SI standards (International System Units). method this independent any does not situ calibration. results show that can be relative standard uncertainty less than 0.8 % when uncertainties model, sections, spectra, temperature or other parameters. long-term comparison Davos, Switzerland, reveals all three are consistent within 1 section University Bremen. From presented here, absolute calibrated cost-effective spectroradiometers, array may applied monitoring.

The Signature of Flares in VIRGO Total Solar Irradiance Measurements

We use Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) measurements from the VIRGO (Variability of solar IRradiance and Gravity Oscillations) instrument on board SOHO to obtain preliminary estimates of the mean total radiative energy emitted by X-class solar flares. The basic tool is that of summed-epoch analysis, which has also enabled us to detect and partially characterize systematic errors present in the basi...

Impact of using different ozone cross sections on ozone profile retrievals from Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) ultraviolet measurements

We investigate the effect of using three different cross section data sets on ozone profile retrievals from Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) ultraviolet measurements (289–307 nm, 326–337 nm). These include Bass-Paur, Brion, and GOME flight model cross sections (references below). Using different cross sections can significantly affect the retrievals, by up to 12 Dobson Units (DU, 1 DU=...

Comparison of Spectral Direct and Diffuse Solar Irradiance Measurements and Calculations for Cloud-Free Conditions

The comparison of spectral measurements and calculations provides an excellent foundation for analyzing the ability of models to compute the solar irradiance absorbed in the atmosphere. Since molecular absorption bands have distinctive spectral signatures, the absence of an atmospheric absorber in a model would result in spectral measurement-model residuals qualitatively different from those ca...

A model of solar total and spectral irradiance variations

We model solar spectral irradiance variations under the assumption that they are produced by sunspots and faculae alone. The model is based on three components, i.e. quiet Sun, assumed to be temporally invariant, sunspots and faculae whose temporal variations are mimicked using time series of sunspot areas and Mg II core-to-wing ratios. The detailed flux spectrum for each component is employed....
